[NEWS] I Am Duran Documentary Finally Arrives

Dazzler Media have announced the release later this month, of Mat Hodgson's acclaimed epic documentary about the life of one of boxing's greatest in-ring warriors, Roberto Duran. 'I Am Duran' features interviews with fighters and movie stars as well as the man himself, a four-time World Champion and one man wrecking-ball who took on the world, transcended his sport and helped inspire his home country of Panama to rise up against its CIA funded dictator to achieve independence. Born in Panama in 1951 Roberto Duran fought his way to sport stardom from as young as eight years old living in the slums of El Chorrillo in the district of La Casa de Piedra ('The House of Stone'). 

The young Duran would spar with experienced boxers at the Neco de le Guardia gym, and by the age of 13 was competing as an amateur notching a an impressive 13 wins to 3 record. By age 16 Duran turned pro and began a thunderous career in the ring that spanned five decades winning five world titles across four weight divisions battling the likes Sugar Ray Leonard, Marvellous Marvin Haggler and Thomas 'The Hitman Hearns. By the time of his retirement at age 50 Duran had fought in 119 matches of which he won 103, 70 of them by knockout. His fighting tactics and powerful punches earned him the moniker 'Manos de Piedra' - Hands of Stone, and was the title of 2016 biopic starring Edgar Ramierz and Robert De Niro. 

Director Mat Hodgson is no stranger to charting the life and times of boxing's most prominent fighters with 2013's 'Night of the Fight; Hatton's Last Stand', in which he followed Ricky Hatton's journey of redemption back to the ring. In 'I Am Duran' Hodgson follows the turbulent life of Roberto Duran and his battles to get away from the streets of El Chorrillo to become one of boxing's most acclaimed fighters. The film features interviews with the man himself as well as former opponents Marvin Haggler and Sugar Ray Leonard, and fighters Mike Tyson, Ricky Hatton, Lennox Lewis, boxer/promoter Oscar De La Hoya, and movie stars Sylvester Stallone and Robert De Niro. 


'I Am Duran' will be punching its way to Blu Ray, DVD and Digital Download on 28th October.
